Advice and career planning
During the first meeting with a client, the job counsellor always ensures to ask them what services they are looking for with the CPSP. Clients usually consult with us to integrate or reintegrate the regular job market, go back to school, or apply for a pardon. The job counsellor advises the client about the field of employment or training they would like to have. The job counsellor makes sure there are no links between the client’s offence(s) and the job or training they wish to undertake.
If clients have others significant issues additional to the employability issue because of the criminal record, our job counsellors are qualified to guide them towards other organizations from the region that are better equipped. For example, some clients have substance abused problems, behavior disorders, lack of housing, etc. Our interveners guide these clients towards other organizations specialized with these types of problems. Sometimes, it is possible that two participations are authorized. It happens when the same client receives specialized employability services provided by the CSPC and services provided by another organization at the same time (e.g. by an addiction agency).
Some clients wish to go back to school, or integrate or reintegrate the job market without knowing which job or training to undertake. When this happens, and the client doesn’t know or doesn’t know anymore what they would like to do when it comes to employment or education, we suggest that they meet with our guidance counsellor who can address each client’s individual concerns. She helps our clients make informed choices that are tailored to their wishes and status.
