Employability Services while in Custody: A Need

The CPSP offers specialized employability services to inmates from the Hull detention center.
Structured guidance services are offered to more than 75 clients for a better job integration or reintegration. Various social and legal issues are considered when developing an action plan: substance abuse, poverty, low level of education, etc. The prison clients benefit from an employability profile review, help to obtain certain documents (identity cards, education documents, etc.), a socio-legal assessment, an individual job counselling, etc. Meaningful means are developed based on the customized client assessment results, to make it easier to achieve the goals set in preparation for the release.
When they are released, the client is accompanied to the CPSP’s employment assistance service where a job counsellor will help them search for a job, go back to school, or apply for a record suspension.
